Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. According to the negative sleeve, the power plant was visited by the West, Schmitz and Lemberger party around 1912. The plant that stands in the accompanying image(s) was not completed until 1917. It is more likely these images were taken around 1917 or later. Photograph, from left to right, of Christine Schmitz, Mary A. West and Minnie West sitting in a row along the running board of a car in San Francisquito Canyon. The car is viewed rather close-up. It is viewed at a slight angle from the driver's side and faces left; it extends out of frame on both sides of the image. Christine Schmitz sits leftmost. She rests her clasped hands to her knees as she gazes off towards the left. Mary A. West sits center. She crosses her arms over her lap and smiles as she looks ahead slightly to the right. Minnie West sits rightmost with her hands in her lap. She turns her head and looks directly to the camera. Behind them in the car, someone reads a newspaper in the backseat. A hillside is barely visible in the far distance behind the car at left. Text from negative sleeve: 1178. San Francisquito Canyon, about 1912. At the power house.
