Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Photograph looking east along the south wall of San Gabriel Mission where 3 women approach the set of old stairs. A dirt driveway passes across the foreground on an upward angle from left to right. In the near distance, a sidewalk stretches between the driveway and San Gabriel Mission. Three women stand at left along the sidewalk and walk towards the left, facing camera. To the left of them, the old staircase rises against the side of the mission. It extends up and to the right behind the women. The mission spans from center and out-of-frame at left behind them. Down the sidewalk at right, a large tree stands at the corner of the building. Text from negative sleeve: 1182. San Gabriel Mission, about 1896. Do not think any of these persons are of my party, unless we came out in that rig and H.H.Cooper is in front seat. Looks too stout for him. Girls not known in either film. 1. A rig in front of the mission. 2. The old stairway and pepper tree. 3. The mission bells. 4. A Mexican lad at the mission. Another rig in the rear. 4 films
