Soldiers stand by the tracks at the Southern Pacific Railroad depot. Two men stand with their backs to the camera while the others are gathered facing them. There is a truck at the left. A cart at the right has luggage on it. There is also luggage on the ground. The depot is in the background with a wooden structure at the right.
Though the negative sleeve gives the date as March 8, 1943, based on other photographs taken on the same day, this photograph was actually taken on March 8, 1942.
Text from negative sleeve: 1196. San Luis Obispo, California, Sunday, March 8, 1943 [sic]. 1. Soldiers on the station platform S. P. R. R. waiting for the Day Light Limited to take them north.
