Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Photograph of the north side of the Santa Anita Dam wall as viewed from above in Santa Anita Canyon. Trees and brush line the canyon wall along the right side of the image. Santa Anita Creek flows below from the left and into the mid-ground where the dam wall stands. The dam is viewed on a tilted angle. It stretches on an arc from left to right across the canyon. Beyond the dam, canyon walls rise in the distance. Text from negative sleeve: 1223. Santa Anita Canyon, about 1935. Gene Velzy had a cabin up in the canyon and Glen Velzy and I went up, with some other fellows to open the trout season. It was the spring after the big flood in the canyon. We had to hike in from below the dam. 1. The Santa Anita canyon dam from the trail above it. 2. A resort. Can't tell now whether First Water or Hoegee Camp. 3. The stream in the canyon. The flood ma [sic] made a new channel and it ran right thru the trees. 4. A dandy pool in the big rocks. It's [sic] size may be judged from the size of the man fishing off the rock on the right side. He is sitting down. 4 films
