Photograph of a couple of servicemen working to load a cannon during Decoration (Memorial) Day services at Los Angeles National Cemetery while others watch. The cannon stands at center in an open field. It is viewed from the side with its muzzle facing towards the right. A serviceman stands in front of the cannon at right with his back turned to the camera. He holds a ramrod as he muzzle-loads the cannon. Another serviceman stands behind the cannon at left and faces towards the right. Several other men stand either behind the cannon or the the left of it and watch. Mountains rise in the far distance. Text from negative sleeve: 1233. Sawtelle, Calif. About 1895. Just commenced to carry a camera. First Fourth of July after I got it I went down to Sawtelle to see the services. No, it was on Decoration Day. I took pictures of the services at the graves, and the cannon firing the salutes. 1. 2. 3. Three views of the services at the cemetery.
