Photograph of servicemen standing in Los Angeles National Cemetery for Decoration (Memorial) Day services and watching as soldiers ready for a gun salute. Flowering shrubbery lines the bottom edge of the image. Servicemen stand in the mid-ground, facing towards the right and away from the camera. Right of center, soldiers raise their firearms and aim, possibly readying for a gun salute. Other servicemen stand behind them at left and center. Flags stand at center, just above the crowd. Text from negative sleeve: 1233. Sawtelle, Calif. About 1895. Just commenced to carry a camera. First Fourth of July after I got it I went down to Sawtelle to see the services. No, it was on Decoration Day. I took pictures of the services at the graves, and the cannon firing the salutes. 1. 2. 3. Three views of the services at the cemetery.
