A blurry photograph of servicemen performing services in commemoration of Decoration (Memorial) Day in Los Angeles National Cemetery. In the near distance, an obelisk stands atop a low mound at right. Servicemen surround the monument on 3 sides. Just inside the left edge of the image, several servicemen hold up American flags. They face right, towards the obelisk. In the distance at center, servicemen stand in row and hold firearms; they face towards the camera and obelisk. They appear to have just fired a gun salute as a cloud of white smoke hovers over them. The line of servicemen at center extends around the right side of the obelisk and out-of-frame at right. Hills stand in the far distance. Text from negative sleeve: 1233. Sawtelle, Calif. About 1895. Just commenced to carry a camera. First Fourth of July after I got it I went down to Sawtelle to see the services. No, it was on Decoration Day.
