Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Photograph of servicemen standing nearby a cannon during Decoration (Memorial) Day services at Los Angeles National Cemetery. The cannon stands at center in an open field. It is viewed at an angle from the side with its muzzle facing towards the right. A serviceman stands in front of the cannon at right. He appears to walk towards the right while he holds a ramrod upright in his right hand. Another serviceman stands behind the cannon at left. He faces and looks towards the other serviceman nearer to camera at right. Another man stands in partial view behind the cannon at left with his back to the camera. The field sprawls into the distance and mountains rise in the background. Text from negative sleeve: 1233. Sawtelle, Calif. About 1895. Just commenced to carry a camera. First Fourth of July after I got it I went down to Sawtelle to see the services. No, it was on Decoration Day.
