Photograph of Al Schmitz standing on the side of the Tioga grade next to a spring that flows alongside the road. The road stretches on an upward diagonal from the lower right corner to the left. A rocky hillside rises from the right side of the road. Al Schmitz stands on the edge of the road in the near distance at left. He faces right, towards the hillside, and turns his head to the camera. Behind and to the right of him, water flows past rocks down the hillside. Chaparral or brush lines the hillside to the left of the stream.
Text from negative sleeve: 1265. Tioga grade, about 1922. Al Schmitz looking at the nice stream of water running along the grade at the spring about half way up. 1 film
