Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Photograph of Frank Mellus aiming his rifle in the air to shoot at a duck (out-of-frame) overhead. Frank Mellus stands in the near distance at center on an embankment that cuts through the marsh. He faces slightly left as he raises the barrel of his gun into the air, obscuring his face. The embankment he stands upon stretches from the bottom edge of the image and recedes into the distance at right; it is surrounded by ponds on either side. The opposite bank stretches across the image in the far distance. Text from negative sleeve: 1272. Sunset Gun Club, November 25, 1916. 1. L to R: Standing, Theodore Lohman ("Pete" Lohman.) H.H.West. Squatting, L to R: Keeper Hardy & Frank Mellus. 2. Frank Mellus sees a duck coming. Grabs his gun. Keeper Hardy is stringing Frank's ducks. 3. 4. 5.
