Mary A. West (Mary Adelbert Teel West Shepard) was H. H. West's first wife and the mother of Elizabeth and his children. Harriet Maria Teel Cline was Mary's sister and Wilfrid Cline Jr. was Harriet's son.
H. H. West's friends and family sit on the porch of his beach cottage. There are large windows at the front of the cottage. Sand is in front and on the steps. Elizabeth West is crying. Wilfrid Cline Jr. is sliding down the stairs.
