Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Elizabeth West (Elizabeth West Siemsen) was H. H. West's daughter. Wilfrid Cline Jr. was Elizabeth's cousin, and the son of Harriet Cline, who was H. H. West's first wife's sister. Based on the age of Elizabeth West in this image, the date has been estimated as about 1903, rather than about 1905. Elizabeth West and Wilfrid Cline Jr. play in the sand. They both hold spoons and are shoveling sand into what may be a cigar box. Elizabeth wears a straw hat. Wilfrid wears a knit hat. The West's summer cottage is visible in the background, as are utility poles and wires. Text from negative sleeve: 1314. Venice, Calif. About 1905. Island Ave and Speedway cottage. L to R: Elizabeth West. Wilfrid Cline Jr. 2. Same, with Stavnow's house in rear. We had the only 2 houses on the street. 2 films.
