Al Schmitz stands at center and holds a pile in his hand. Glen Velzy stands at and smokes a pipe while resting his hand on the side of a car. The side of a car is visible along the right frame. Behind Wilfrid Cline, Jr. and Al Schmitz stands a stone-constructed building in partial view. Mountains rise in the far distance at right. Text from negative sleeve: 1336. Willow Springs, Calif. About 1917. Al Schmitz, Wilfrid Cline Jr, Glen Velzy and H.H.West leave in latter's Buick for Cottonwood Creek about May 29, 1917, to fish for golden trout, which season opened on June 1, 1917. Just before reaching Willow Springs from Elizabeth Lake my Buick broke a collar of the Universal joint, and almost immediately afterward broke a pinion gear in rear end.
