Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Photograph of Mertie West standing on the side of a road and watching Riverside Geyser erupt from across Firehole River. The road stretches on a diagonal across the bottom edge and lower left corner of the image. Beyond it, Firehole River flows parallel to it. H. H. West's Buick (partial view) is parked along the side of the road at far left and is viewed from the back. Mertie stands to the right of it, atop a low ledge lining the edge of the roadside. She faces away from the camera and looks across Firehole River. On the opposite bank, Riverside Geyser erupts with steam at center. The steam wafts towards the right. Pines stand on a low hillside that rises beyond the geyser. Text from negative sleeve: 1590. Yellowstone trip 1942. Tuesday, June 23, 1942. 1.
