Photograph of a bear crossing the road that H. H. and Mertie West travel along somewhere between Mammoth Hot Springs and Madison Junction. The road stretches on a steep upward angle from left towards the horizon at right. It occupies the width of the foreground, curving slightly as it narrows into the distance. The front of the car is visible in the lower right corner. The bear stands on the left side of the road in the near distance at center; it faces left. Further down the road, a car approaches the camera on the left side of the road. A hillside rises gradually up from the left side of the road, occupying the background.

[Note: In all instances of the year date, 1942, the last digit (2) is handwritten over a typed 3.]
