Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Photograph of a bear standing in the road that H. H. and Mertie West travel along somewhere between Mammoth Hot Springs and Madison Junction. The road stretches across the foreground on a slightly upward angle from left to right. A bear stands near the edge of the roadside, right-of-center. It faces towards the right. From the road, a hill slopes upward. A pine stands on the slope behind the bear at right and a few more pines stand in a row higher up the hill at left. A white streak emanates from the lower right corner and stretches on an upward angle to the left. Text from negative sleeve: 1592. Yellowstone trip 1942. Yellowstone, Wednesday June 24, 1942. 1. Lot of bears on this portion of the road, and here are photos of a couple. 2 films. 4 films. [Note: In all instances of the year date, 1942, the last digit (2) is handwritten over a typed 3.]
