Photograph of a bear and her two cubs crossing a road in Yellowstone National Park. In the foreground, the side of H. H. West's Buick (partial view) occupies the left third of the image while stopped in the road. The road extends behind and to the right of the car and into the distance at center. Halfway down the road, at center, a bear and her cubs cross the road. They walk towards H. H. West's car at left with the larger bear leading the way. Behind the bears and on the left side of the road, another car travels towards the camera. Pines line both sides of the road and a pine-covered mountainside rises in the distance at right.
Text from negative sleeve: 1593. Yellowstone trip 1942. Yellowstone park, Wednesday June 24, 1942. 1. A bear and 2 cubs by the road starts to cross road after we passed by. Took this picture. The car behind us has stopped and was taking picture of the bear and cubs. When they started up, I stopped them by my car and gave them my card and said I would send them one of my pictures showing their car in the background if they would send me one of theirs showing my car ahead. They agreed, and did so. Their picture is in our book of the trip. The lady in the car giving me her card was Aquilla R. Findley, 187 D Street, Salt Lake City, Utah. 1 film [Note: In all instances of the year date, 1942, the last digit (2) is handwritten over a typed 3.]
