Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Photograph of H. H. West's Buick parked at the Crown Point rest and viewing area along the Columbia River Highway. A parking area and drive stretches across the foreground. H. H. West's Buick is parked across a few parking spaces. It is viewed from the side and faces left. A low, stone wall lines the parking area, passing behind the Buick. Lampposts from a tier below rise above the wall and appear to flank the front and rear ends of the Buick. Beyond the car, a vista overlooking the Columbia River spreads across the distance. Rock Island (Washington state) is visible in the middle of the Columbia River. The Oregon bank is at left and the Washington bank is at right. Text from negative sleeve: 1603. Yellowstone trip 1942. Monday, June 29, 1942. 1. Residence of the Johnsons. 2. We start for the Columbia River Highway, and are sopped [sic] by a funeral procession entering a cemetery, which I snap out of my car window. 3. Our car at a view point on the Columbia River Highway. 4. Multnomah Falls. L to R: P. F. C. Ernest Lewis, Marine Det.
