Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Photograph of Mertie West standing behind the parapet of an outlook along the south rim of Crater Lake and looking northwest. A pathway stretches across the observation area on an upward, arcing angle from left to right. A stone parapet lines the back edge of the area. Mertie stands, left-of-center, on the near side of the wall with her back to the camera. She gazes out towards the lake in the distance. Beyond the parapet, a pine stands along the right edge of the image and a few bare trees stand along the left edge, creating a frame. Crater Lake sits in the distance at center. Wizard Island juts into the lake from the left, behind the trees. Mountains and ridges line the rim on the far side of the lake. Text from negative sleeve: 1611. Yellowstone trip 1942.
