Description

Photograph of Mertie West walking through a snow bank to avoid a large puddle of water that has inundated the pathway along the crater rim. The pathway enters frame from the lower right corner and extends into the image at an upward angle towards the Rim Visitors Center standing in the distance at center. A low, stone wall lines the right side of the pathway. Water covers the majority of the pathway. A bank of snow occupies the lower left corner. Mertie West stands in the near distance at center and walks through the snow to avoid the water. She walks with her back to the camera. Ahead of her and on the pathway at right, a couple stands. Pines surround the visitors center in the distance at center and the top of a mountain is visible in the far distance at right. Text from negative sleeve: 1612. Yellowstone trip 1942. Wednesday, July 1, 1942. 1. Crater Lake. Snow everywhere. Mertie West walking around water on walk and going up thru the snow bank. 2. In the snow along the walk is a girl in shorts.
