Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Photograph of the auto court where H. H. West and Mertie West stayed while traveling through Ashland, Oregon. A street stretches along the bottom edge of the image in the foreground. Back from the road, a manicured lawn stretches in front of the auto court and to the left of a house. The house stands in partial view along the right side of the image. Behind the lawn at left, a row of attached motel rooms stand, facing towards the camera. A car is parked beneath the leftmost carport. Another car is parked in front of the structure. It is viewed from the side and faces left. The structure extends towards the right and behind the house. Trees stands behind the hotel rooms and in the far distance low mountains stretch across the background. Text from negative sleeve: 1614. Yellowstone trip 1942. Wednesday, July 1, 1942. 1. We made Ashland for the night. Hot as hell. Glad to tie up. Here is our auto court. Nice lawn, and cabin but awfully hot. 1 film. [Note: In all instances of the year date, 1942, the last digit (2) is handwritten over a typed 3.]
