Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Distant photograph of the side of the New Jerusalem (now El Rio) general store near Oxnard. A gravel road passes across the foreground. The building stands in the near distance at center and extends towards the left. The side of the whitewashed, brick building faces the camera. Signs painted on the side of the building read, "NEW JERUSALEM SIMON COHN General Merchandise Here SINCe 1875," and "GROCERIES - VEGETABLES HARDWARE - TOOLS NOTIONS - DRUGS POULTRY FOODS DRINK Coca-Cola." In front of the side of the building, a dog wanders in the road and a utility pole stands at far left. A small set of steps lead up to a porch that stretches across the front of the building, right-of-center. The porch and front of the building face towards the right. A man sits at the top of the steps. Another road passes in front of the building at far right. Text from negative sleeve: 1626. Yellowstone trip, 1932 [sic]. Monday, July 6, 1942.
