Photograph looking east down North Broadway (formerly Downey Avenue) and towards its intersection with Avenue 22 (formerly Truman Street). North Broadway spans the width of the foreground and as it stretches back, it curves towards the right. Cable car lines hover over the center of North Broadway. At left, two cars in partial view are parked along the street, facing towards the camera. Behind the cars, the domed building for "California Bank," stands at the street corner. Other business stretch behind and to the right of it along the left side of North Broadway. On the right side of the road, a "FURNITURE" business stands along the right edge of the image. Additional buildings stretch behind it. Two cars drive past the furniture store and away from the camera. Text from negative sleeve: 1674. Los Angeles, California. Downey Avenue. Now North Broadway. Lincoln Heights. 1. The present corner of Truman Street and Doney [sic] Avenue, East Los Angeles. Now known as Avenue 22 and North Broadway. We used to live just the other side of the Moore Building- the 3 story building with bay windows at the left center. The 2-story building just beyond with a big sign at upper front was the old Jim Hanley building, leased by Doc Schloss and used for Doc's drug store. It was there when we came to Los Angeles in 1888. Taken in 1939. 1 film and 1 photograph
