The sofa stretches across the image and out-of-frame at right. Minnie Kellum lies across the sofa with her head at left and feet oriented towards the right. She is dressed in men's clothing and wears trousers, a jacket and vest. Minnie leans back towards 3 pillows on the left side of the sofa. She rests on arm behind her head and holds smoking paraphernalia in her other hand as she looks to the camera. She crosses one leg over the other. Behind the sofa, palm fronds hold photographs. Curtains hang over a doorway that stands behind and to the left of the sofa. A fingerprint is visible along the top edge of the image at center. Text from negative sleeve: 1710. Los Angeles, California, about 1899. The Kellums. On Clanton or Stamford [sic] street, near 14th? See #1709.
