The women sit in a row, along the width of the steps. Louise Ambrose sits leftmost. She faces camera, but turns to converse to the other two to the right of her. Alice Gordon sits at center and casts her gaze down to the right. Grace Boal sits rightmost. She turns her head to the left. A porch stretches horizontally behind them. The side of the house stretches across the background. A door stands behind and to the right of the women and a chair sits on the far left side of the porch. Text from negative sleeve: 1737. Los Angeles, California, about 1900. West Ninth street; Lacys's home. 1. Josephine Lacy, taken on the steps of the Will Lacy home on West Ninth street, just a few doors west of Figueroa street. 2. Alice Gordon, with hands behind her, and the Lacy barn in the rear. 3. Grace Boal, with hands behind her, with more of the house and less of the barn showing than when I took Alice Gordon.
