Parade for President William McKinley. A float passes in the center with women wearing hats and carrying parasols and American flags. In the foreground, there are the backs of males spectators wearing hats and in front of female spectators. There is a pole with a banner hanging from it among the men. Other spectators both standing and sitting in stands are across the street. There are buildings and trees across the street, including The Downey, which is at the right with the sign among the crowd and banners hanging from its roof. Wires crisscross overhead.
Text from negative sleeve: 1741. Los Angeles, California, May 1901. Main Street. 1. The crowd on Main Street near Fourth Street waiting for the President McKinley parade to come. The old Downey Block - rather the old residence of Governor Downey - with its mansard roof is directly across from me as I snap this film. Apparently being used as a rooming house, the name "The Downey" may be plainly seen right in the center of this picture. Governor Downey's old house stood on Main Street, just a door or two from the corner of Fourth St. on the west side of the street, just north of what is now the Barclay Hotel, first called the Van Nuys hotel. 1 film.
