Josie Shaw was the sister of Mertie Whitaker, who became H. H. West's second wife in the 1920's.
Based on the age of Lester Shaw in this image, the date has been estimated as about 1896, rather than about 1898.
Josie Shaw plays with her son, Lester. She is bending over and therefore slightly blurry. He wears a white gown. There are trees in the background and a fence at the left with a gate that is ajar. There are houses across the street and utility poles with wires.
