H. H. West's father, George M. West, sits on a rocking chair in the library of the West's house. He wears glasses and has his hands crossed in his lap, and he smokes a pipe. There is a large table at the right, partially obscuring the phonograph. There are bookshelves at the right and a fireplace on the back wall. Pictures hang on the wall and there is a clock on the mantel.
Text from negative sleeve: 1806. Los Angeles, California. 240 South Griffin Ave. about 1898. 1. Father, George M. West, sitting in the library, listening to the new Edison phonograph that I had bought. 2. Guy M. West on our front lawn. Looking north up Griffin Ave. 2 films.
