H. H. West's daughters, Elizabeth and Frances, play on a makeshift jungle gym in the West's backyard. Elizabeth hangs upside down and Frances balances on the bar. The bar is attached to the pergola. Behind the girls, there is a leather car seat. There are plants throughout and houses in the background.
Text from negative sleeve: 1868. Los Angeles, California. 165 South Harvard Blvd. About 1915. Out by our garage I put up a turning pole for the children, under a small pergola. Also haul out an old auto seat under the pergola. 1. 2. Two pictures of, left to right: Elizabeth West. Frances West. On the turning pole. There is an alley behind our place, and the houses in the background are across the alley and face Hobart Street. 2 films.
