Description

Photograph of 2 unidentified servicemen crouching on the step in front of their quarters while stationed at Dutch Harbor during World War II. A walkway of wooden slats stretches from the lower right corner towards the wooden step in the foreground at center. Two servicemen crouch and kneel on the step. The man at left leans against the front exterior wall of the barracks as he crouches. A helmet rests on his knee as he holds onto his rifle which stands upright in front of him. The man at right kneels onto one knee and rests a hand to a wooden stick. He holds onto a rifle with his other hand. Both men look to the camera. The front of their barracks stands directly behind them. It is in partial view and enters frame at left. It has an arced roof. The Dutch door that the boys stand in front of is open at top. A window sits to the right of it with "24" painted onto a piece of wood attached to its frame. A snow-covered mountain is visible in the far distance at right. Text from negative sleeve: 2007.
