Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Photograph of PFC Jackie Foreman standing and posing outside Clifton's Cafeteria (Pacific Seas) on South Olive Street (no longer standing). Jackie Foreman stands in the foreground, left-of-center. He is dressed in uniform and looks to the camera. In his hands his holds a rolled up magazine (TIME?) and a camera. Directly behind him, a lamppost stands and extends beyond the top frame. The sidewalk extends behind him at center and right, narrowing as it approaches the horizon. People walk and sit along the sidewalk at right. Hovering over the sidewalk is the marquis for Clifton's Cafeteria. The neon lit underside is in full view and is decorated in a flower and vine pattern. A terrazzo-like inlay decorates the sidewalk beneath the marquis. South Olive Street stretches into the distance along the left frame. A couple of cars are parked along the curb behind and to the left of Jackie; they face away from the camera. Tall buildings in the far distance line the opposite side of the street. Text from negative sleeve: No.2040. Los Angeles, Calif. Jackie Foreman, PFC taken in front of Clifton's Cafeteria, September 1943.
