To the left of Richard, a sign posted in front of the house reads, "FURNITURE FOR SALE." Behind Richard, the front of the West's home on Griffin Avenue stretches across the background. It is viewed at an angle from the front and enters frame at left. Directly behind Richard, from left to right, Mertie West and Maud F. West stand beneath the arch of the front porch. From the front porch, a walkway extends on a downward angle towards the right. Wayne West stands on the far side of the walkway with his back turned to camera.
