West, Jr. and Mertie West stand side-by-side at the top of the steps, beneath the front arch of the porch. Both look to the camera. H. H. West, Jr. just arrived in Los Angeles from Attu Island, Alaska. He is dressed in his military uniform. Behind Mertie and H. H., Jr. the front doors to the building's units stand side-by-side. Their number plates, from left to right, read, "832," and "830." The central section of the building juts forward from the sides. A neighboring house is visible in the background at right.
