Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. According to the negative sleeve, this set of photographs is captured in color. The scans of these images are in black and white. Photograph of Mertie West (right) conversing with an unknown woman (left) in front a bakery in Anchorage, Alaska. A sidewalk stretches on an upward angle along the bottom edge from right to left. Mertie West and the other unknown woman stand on the sidewalk, off-center to the left. Mertie stands center and faces left as she converses with the other woman. The other woman stands to the left of Mertie with her back to the camera. An entryway to a building stands in partial view along the right edge of the image. Behind the 2 women, the shop window of a bakery stretches parallel to the sidewalk and extends beyond the left frame. Etched in the windows, it reads, "NORTH POLE BAKERY." An unlit neon sign above the window reads, "[...]E BAKERY." A streak of white enters frame from left. Several punch holes run along both the left and right edges. Text from negative sleeve: 2214.
