Photograph of the old Crandall or Gleason property next to the Methodist church in Red Oak, as viewed from the southwest. The brick-paved intersection of North 6th Street and Reed Street spans the width of the bottom edge and stretches into the near distance. Reed Street veers towards the right and North 6th Street veers towards the left. Up a small hill from the street corner and sitting back from the road is the old Crandall or Gleason house. It is viewed from the front at an angle and faces left, towards North 6th Street. The house stands 3-stories tall and a large porch extends from the front of the home. Further up North 6th Street, the Methodist church stands in partial view at left. It is viewed at an angle from the side and extends beyond the left frame. Arched windows are visible on the first floor. A dome is sits atop the church. Houses line Reed Street in the background at right.
Text from negative sleeve: 2236. Red Oak, Iowa, November 22, 1946 [handwritten:] not our old barn { [end handwritten] [hand drawn "X"'s over caption:] 1 and 22 [sic] photos of George M.West's old barn which has been moved across the alley and remodeled. There is a small door at upper right hand side where hay was put into loft. I fell out of this door trying to pull up a scantling [sic] that father had put up to the door. Fell on a pile of ashes. Not hurt but father was frightened. 3. The old Crandall or Gleason property next to the Methodist Church. I used to jump up on that stone wall and walk it on my way to school. Church has been rebuilt also. Not much change in Crandall place.
