Photograph, from left to right, of Wes Witherby, Dode (Sarah Josephine) Witherby, Zetta Witherby and Mertie West boarding the Death Valley Railroad's narrow gauge train at its terminus at Ryan, California. A car is parked along the left edge in the foreground. It faces towards the camera and extends beyond the frame at left. Its license plate reads, "19 CALIFORNIA 47 70 V 908." At right, the passenger cars of the narrow gauge train sit on the train tracks. It enters frame at right and stretches back towards the left. Benches line the passenger cars. Zetta Witherby and Mertie West sit beside one another on a seat on the second car. Other passengers board behind them. Between the car at left and the train, Wes Witherby and Dode Witherby stand with their backs to the camera as they wait to board the train. A rocky hillside rises at right, behind the train.
