Description

Photograph of Mertie West and other visitors to the Columbia Icefield walking down the steps of a lodge in either Jasper National Park or Banff National Park. A wide dirt road stretches across the foreground. The chalet/lodge stands in partial view in the near distance. The structure is viewed straight-on and extends beyond the frame at top and right. A wide set of steps, left-of-center, descends from the building and towards the camera. Several visitors stand near the top of the steps and face camera. Mertie West stands at the bottom of the steps at center and appears to move towards the right. A large bay window juts out from the building, lining the top of the stairs. Above the bay window, a balcony spans the gap between 2 sets of windows. On the right side of the building, scaffolding stands and above it, a dormer sits on the rooftop.
