Photograph of Mertie West standing behind a parapet and looking out towards Horseshoe Falls (or Canadian Falls) at Niagara Falls. The scene is viewed from an elevated perspective. Mertie West stands at center, on the near side of a parapet and with her back to camera. To the left of her, a viewing scope stands. The parapet stretches across the image, in front of Mertie. In the distance and at a lower elevation, the Niagara River (right) cascades over Horseshoe Falls at center. Mist from the falls rises up from the basin at center. On the far side of the falls, at left, Niagara Falls, New York is visible.
