Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. NRHP reference # 72000144 An out-of-focus photograph of the Boston Fire Department giving a demonstration on Boston Common. Walkways pass through the grassy expanses of Boston Common's grounds. In the distance at center, a large gathering of people are clumped together. In front of the group, at right, a fire hose snakes through the grass. Other park visitors walk through the grounds surrounding the large group. Trees line the distant edge of the Common and buildings are visible rising above the treeline at center. Four punched holes line the top edge at left. According to the negative sleeve, this set of photographs is captured in color. The scans of these images are in black and white. Text from negative sleeve: 2345. COLOR Eastern trip October 1947 Boston. 1 Mertie West at the entrance to the old Boston Common. Bronze tablet on entrance post 2 Fire Department of Boston was giving some kind of demonstration on the commons. 3 H.H. and Mertie West in front of Revere Tablet in parkway across from Revere House.
