Photograph of Mertie West standing on a street corner and looking towards the Old State House and cobblestone ring marking the site of the Boston Massacre. A sidewalk enters frame along the bottom and lower right edges. It curves out to the left. A garbage bin stands on the corner along the lower left edge. It reads, "P.W.D. KEEP YOUR STREETS CLEAN DEPOSIT WASTE PAPER HERE." A little farther back, Mertie West stands at the edge of the street corner at center. Her back is turned to the camera. To the right of her and just beyond the sidewalk, Congress Street enters frame and stretches across the image. Pedestrians cross it at far right. State Street enters frame from left, behind the garbage bin, and stretches back towards the right. At the intersection of these streets, a cobblestone ring inset into the road marks the site of the Boston Massacre. It sits behind and to the left of Mertie. In the near distance, at center, the Old State House stands 3-stories tall. The Georgian-style building is viewed at an angle from the front and the right side. Above the 3rd-story, a clock is inset into the front of the building. It is flanked by sculptures. Dormers are visible lining the roof along the right side. State Street passes to the right of the Old State House and Devonshire Street forks to the left of the building. Taller buildings stand across the background.
