Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. An out-of-focus photograph of visitors to Catalina Island disembarking their boat upon their arrival in Avalon. Several people walk past the camera and to the left in the foreground. Beneath them, the wharf stretches back towards the mid-ground as it passes across the image. At the far edge of the wharf, a ship is moored. It sits in partial view and is viewed from the side; it extends beyond the left and right edges. Three decks of the ship are in view. From the enclosed middle deck at center, a gangplank descends from the ship down to the dock. Dozens of people walk down the gangplank and towards the camera. Above them, the open upper deck stretches across the image. A few people are visible on the upper deck. Text from negative sleeve: 2396. Catalina Island trip Aug. 7, 1948. 1.
