An out-of-focus and poorly-exposed photograph, from left to right, of: Everett Shaw, Frieda Shaw, Dode (Sarah) Witherby, Mertie West, Will Witherby, Hannah Lockwood, Zetta Witherby, Josie Shaw and Will Shaw standing on the wharf upon their arrival in Avalon. The group stands in a row across the foreground. All face camera, except for Everett Shaw, Dode Witherby and Will Witherby. Everett Shaw wears a white jacket and stands leftmost with his back to camera. Dode Witherby stands with her back to camera in the gap between Frieda Shaw and Mertie West. Behind and to the right of Mertie, Will Witherby stands; he is obscured by Mertie. A young woman and man walk towards camera to the right of the group. A mast stretches across the image from the left, passing above the West's traveling party. At the back edge of the wharf in the background, a ship is moored.
