Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. An out-of-focus photograph, from right to left, of Mertie West, Hannah Lockwood, Will Witherby and others walking up a gangplank to board a ship in Avalon. The pier stretches across the bottom edge on an angle back towards the right. Above the right corner, the gangplank enters frame and inclines to the left, hovering over the pier. Across the side of the gangplank, it reads, "SANTA CATALINA." At far right, a man and a small girl walk up the gangplank. Ahead of them and to the left, Mertie West and Hannah Lockwood walk up the gangplank and look to camera. Farther up the ramp, Will Witherby stands and looks back towards the camera. Several passengers stand at the top of the gangplank, waiting to board the ship at left. The ship is viewed close-up and at an angle from the side. It stretches along the length of the pier to the right and into the distance. Text from negative sleeve: 2397. Catalina Island trip Aug.7, 1948. 1.
