Mary Lou sits at the top of a ladder holding the branch above her head in one hand. Newspapers visit Sierra Madre on Newspaper Day to eat and admire the huge wisteria, regardless of rain or shine. Text from newspaper caption: Sierra Madre's annual Wistaria Fete will open Friday, with the famous vine in full bloom. Little 4-year-old Mary Lou Carter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Carter, and great-grand-daughter of Nathaniel Coburn Carter, founder of Sierra Madre, looks over the wisteria blossoms. The vine, which covers an entire acre, is on the Fennel estate.
