Dr. Bridges stands beside his automobile resting an arm on the hood of the car positioned in front of a building that says Auto Repairing. Photograph appears with the article, "Crash-Proof Auto Ready," Los Angeles Times, 17 Apr 1936: A2. For two years Dr. Bridges would work for hours at the garage of 1110 North Fair Oaks Avenue on his "Lightning Bug", an automobile he claims to improve safety, economy and roadability. Text from negative sleeve: 4874 - Dr Calvin B Bridges of Cal-Tech and his automobile of the future 4/17/36 [stamped:] Apr 19 1936 Text from newspaper caption: This wreck-proof car will be on display at the California Institute of Technology today. Dr. Calvin B. Bridges, the designer, who is a nationally known biologist, has named his machine "The Lightning Bug."
