Photograph appears with the article, "Student Makes Device For Capturing Sun Rays," Los Angeles Times, 10 May 1936: A4.
Viola and Lorena stand behind Dr. Pheley, watching him as he holds a mirror over the heliostat.
Under the instruction of Dr. Pheley Los Angeles Junior College student George Huck has created a working model of a heliostat to demonstrate the use of such instruments as the giant Griffith Park Planetarium coelostat.
Text from newspaper caption: Capturing sunbeams used to be only a poet's fancy. Yesterday at Los Angeles Junior College they were making the dream a reality. With this heliostat the rays are held stationary by means of rotating mirrors. Instructor D. B. Pheley, its inventor, is shown with Lorena Sellers and Viola von Schneider, co-eds.
