A tear gas bomb on the bottom left corner releases a cloud, causing protesters and spectators to flee. In November of 1934, members of the Amalgamated Association of Street and Electric Railway Employees confronted the Los Angeles Railway Corporation to contract with their union in support of wage increases ad to operate under union rules. A strike followed when the union was challenged and railway operations were halted or slowed down on a number of occasions. Members of the Los Angeles Railway Employees Association replaced strikers.
