Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds.
The historical pageant, La Fiesta de la Rancho San Jose, at the Los Angeles County Fair celebrated the one hundredth anniversary of the first Spanish settlers, Don Ygnacio Palomares and Don Arcardo Vejar to the Pomona Valley.
A parade float fashioned after a sailing vessel is led by four drought horses. Several people are on the ship and two people are seated on the base of the float. The ship bears the name “CABRILLO.” A large crowd is visible in the stands.
A similar photograph of this parade float appears with the article, “County Fair Fiesta Recalls Settling of Pomona Valley,” Los Angeles Times, 21 Sept. 1936: 1, 7, 20.
