Left to right: Betty Ferris, Gwen Carlson, and an unidentified third woman, who may be Lila Mae Sampson, another member of the Friday Morning Club. Ferris and Carlson are in period costume and sitting in a carriage. Sampson is in modern dress and has her left foot on the step of the carriage and right hand braced on the side of the carriage as if ready to get in. Ferris carries a lacy parasol and Sampson has a purse in her left hand and wears a fancy hat and capelet draped over her shoulders.
A different photograph taken on the same occasion appears under the headline, "Money Management Plan Scanned By P.-T.A. Throughout Nation," Los Angeles Times, 18 Apr 1937: D10.
Martha Brisacher is not in this photograph. She is in the accompanying photograph, image 14631, the one that appears in the newspaper.

Text from newspaper caption: PLANNING FOR FORTY-SIXTH BIRTHDAY FETE Forty-six years ago, when Friday Morning Club was founded, the above surrey was the last word in flashy conveyances. The club keeps abreast of the times, but the 1891 vehicle will play an important part in the birthday celebration on Thursday at the clubhouse. Members playing leading roles will be Mrs. Earl W. Carlson, in old-fashioned costume; Mrs. Martha Brisacher as the modern girl, and Miss Betty Ferris with the umbrella of the gay nineties. The Friday Morning Club treasures many costumes of that period.
