Related to the article, "Last-Minute Trojan Pass Wins, 7 to 3: Nave's Bullet Throw Beats Duke Before 93,000 Bowl Fans," Los Angeles Times, 3 Jan. 1939: 1 The camera pans across the Rose Bowl Stadium's field. In the near distance at center, Duke quarterback, Bob Spangler, has the ball and runs towards the right. He runs into a USC lineman. A few Duke players surround the tackling play. Kneeling behind the melee at left is Tom Maloney (62). At right, Willard Eaves (24) also kneels on the turf. Allen Johnson (58) stands on the near side of the play with his back to camera. Trojan tackle, Howard Stoecker (68) approaches the play from the right. A few more players are clustered to the left of the play. Spectators fill the stadium's stands in the background.
